This year in particular our students haveexperienced a myriad of hardship, isolation, uncertainty, and fear. In thispresentation, we argue that teachers can overcome the challenges of traumaand inspire learning by building empowerment and resilience into theironline teaching through techniques that balance rigor, support, structure andflexibility, create a sense of safety, and humanize online learning. We willintroduce the principles of trauma-informed pedagogy when addressing thesocietal challenges of COVID and share our course design and activities toillustrate how these principles may be implemented.
